Remote Learning & Teaching Resources for University Studies

Electronic resources for UNST division courses for fall 2020

Guide for University Studies Professors

This is a guide for faculty and students working in the University Studies division to highlight our resources that are accessible online.

We have also put together a Remote Teaching & Learning Guide with more scholarship, assignment ideas, and workshop information on remote learning.

If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to the liaisons for this division:

  • Debbie Krahmer, dkrahmer@colgate.edu

Visit the libraries COVID-19 page for information on building access, or the Borrowing Services Update page for information on digitization, requesting materials, and picking up items.

Library Instruction Options

For the fall 2020 semester, library sessions are only available via remote options, but we are still flexible and happy to work with you to develop what will work best for your class. Additionally, the libraries have developed a module in Moodle that provides introductory information about library resources and services. The module is 12 short readings and a 12-question quiz.  As an incentive, completion of this module, which takes about an hour and half, will earn students 1.5 units toward their PE credit.

Possible options for library sessions (these can be combined or re-designed as needed):

  • Pre-recorded library instruction videos on various topics, geared towards the specific needs of your students. (Examples from Spring 2020.)
  • A live remote Zoom session (which can be recorded) for your entire class, based on the information and skills your students need for their research assignments.
  • A live remote Zoom workshop or office hours, where students have the option to visit with a librarian at regular times.
  • The Libraries' Moodle module, either as an outside-of-class assignment, or we can work with you to create a module section so that you can monitor your students yourself.
  • One-on-one scheduled meetings via Zoom with students (required or optional).
  • An embedded librarian, which may be anywhere from a personal librarian for your class being listed on your Moodle page to having a librarian attend class sessions to answer research questions as they come up.

We are flexible and happy to work with you to define what will work best with your class.
