FAQs

Q: Where are the DVDs at?

A: All our DVDs, Blu-ray and VHS titles are held in LASR storage in Case Library, except titles on reserve for classes. You must search the catalog to see if we have a film, then click on the "Request from LASR" button to request it out of storage. It should arrive at the Borrowing Services desk on Level 3 within 5-15 minutes.

Q: What if my professor said the film was on reserve?

A: Request the film by title at the Borrowing Services desk on Level 3 in Case, or at the Cooley Library for science materials.

Q: Can I search for films by Actor or Director?

A: Yes, by using the Author search, you can sort by actors with a major role in a film, or all films by a certain director.

Q: How do I know if I can use this film in a public showing?

A: All films with public performance rights are tagged as such in their record. Search for the film, and then check in the notes to see if it has rights, or use this search to browse the list.

Q: How can I request the library to purchase a film?

A: Students should ask the librarian on duty or make the request through their professor. Professors can request films through their library liaison, by filling out this request form, or by contacting Rhonda Pancoe directly.

Q: Do you have Netflix or Amazon Prime?

A: No, those services are not available to institutions such as libraries. We do have a streaming video service called Kanopy, which has many documentaries, foreign films, and independent films.
